Too cold for bird baths!

This is our juvenile black crow who fell out of his tree when he was very young. 

This is his first winter and apparently no one told him not to take a bath when the temperatures are below freezing. Those are ice crystals on his feathers! We immediately took him inside to thaw out and he is just fine!

Frozen water!

It’s cold! 

The water hoses freeze and usually all the animals’ water freezes, too. We spend a lot of time breaking up water and this time I found a feather frozen in it!

Preparing for the colder side of winter

I hope everyone enjoyed the holidays!! 

We’re getting ready for some much colder temperatures by putting extra hay in with some of the animals and moving the smallest animals inside. The Sandhill Cranes love to pick through their new hay!
